Oct 3, 2026 — Hours of police body-camera footage from Luigi Mangione’s arrest were unsealed Friday by a Manhattan judge, offering the public its first look at the moment officers realized they had captured the man accused of killing a health insurance CEO.

The judge ordered the recordings released after CNN petitioned for their disclosure. The videos come from Mangione’s Dec. 9, 2024, arrest at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania — five days after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was shot and killed as he walked to a Manhattan investors conference.

Footage from eight officers’ cameras captures the encounter from its opening moments. In one video, officers ask Mangione to lower the surgical face mask he was wearing. Once they see his face, an officer steps outside, out of earshot, and says: “That’s 100% him.”

In another video, taken later at the police station, an officer searches Mangione’s backpack. As she pulls out a gun cartridge, she smiles broadly — seemingly confirming to herself and the room that they had their suspect.

The footage also shows officers responding to a call about a suspicious person, asking Mangione for his name and identification. He produced a fake ID under the name “Mark Rosario” — the same name prosecutors say he used when checking into a New York City hostel days earlier.

Portions of the videos were shown in December during a suppression hearing, where Mangione’s lawyers unsuccessfully sought to throw out his initial statements to police and the evidence seized during the arrest. The judge ruled the evidence admissible.

Mangione pleaded guilty in August to federal stalking charges and faces life in prison when he is sentenced in December. His state murder case in New York has been postponed indefinitely while his lawyers seek to have it dismissed.
