Argentina are through to the World Cup final after coming from behind to beat England 2-1 in the semi-final at Atlanta Stadium.
Anthony Gordon put England ahead in the 55th minute, but Argentina responded through substitute Enzo Fernandez, who leveled the score in the 85th minute. Lautaro Martinez then struck the winner deep into stoppage time, in the 90+2nd minute, to send the Albiceleste through.
Argentina dominated possession (64% to 36%) and outshot England 14-6, with six shots on target to England’s three. It is Argentina’s second consecutive World Cup final, having lifted the trophy in 2022. Lionel Messi and his teammates will face Spain in New York on Sunday, July 19, in pursuit of back-to-back titles.
For England, the loss ends a promising run at the semi-final stage. Thomas Tuchel’s side will face France in the third-place playoff on July 19 in Miami.
