LOS GATOS, Calif. — Netflix announced on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, that the animated musical “KPop Demon Hunters” has officially become the streaming platform’s most-watched film of all time, amassing over 236 million views since its release on June 20. The film’s success dethrones the 2021 action-comedy “Red Notice,” which held the previous record with 230.9 million all-time views, as reported by People.com.

“KPop Demon Hunters,” produced by Sony Pictures Animation, follows a K-pop girl group who secretly battle supernatural threats. The film’s record-breaking viewership is a notable achievement for an original animated movie, which has also found success beyond the streaming service. According to The Guardian, the film’s soundtrack has seen commercial success, with several songs topping music charts globally.

The film’s popularity has also led to a limited theatrical release of a sing-along version in the United States and Canada. A report from CBC News indicates that the weekend event, which screened in over 1,750 theaters, earned an estimated $18 million to $20 million in ticket sales. This theatrical performance, in addition to its streaming numbers, highlights the film’s widespread appeal across different platforms.

The movie’s co-director, Maggie Kang, a Toronto-based writer and director, told CBC News that the film’s success was not necessarily expected and could serve as a “blueprint” for future films, launching on streaming services before leveraging viral fame into successful theatrical runs.
